Let the games begin! It’s time for the 2014 Winter Olympic is Sochi, Russia. We had such a good response to our architectural round up of the 2012 London Olympic venues, so we are doing another series of posts for the venues in Russia. 11 newly built areas were built for the Olympic events and they are set to provide world-class stages for the athletes.
First up is the centerpiece of the Sochi 2014 Olympics Game, The Fisht Olympic Stadium design by Populous. The stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies along with the victory ceremonies. The elaborate jewel-encrusted Fabergé eggs that are a renowned Russian icon inspired the unique shell-like design of the Fisht Olympic Stadium. The venue features a translucent polycarbonate roof, which will be used to project vivid illumination shows during the Games, while also giving the venue an appearance of snowy peaks, ensuring it sits in harmony with the landscape of the Imeretinskaya Valley and the Caucasus Mountains.
