EL MORRO ELEMENTARY

LAGUNA BEACH UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

The unique challenges successfully met for this project included bringing a 50 year old school up-to-date technologically and accommodating three new building components within a constructed and environmentally sensitive areas. A retaining well was built in order to capture an additional acre of Laguna Beach Unified School District owned land for a soccer-size playfield used additionally for baseball and softball and adjacent hardscape basketball courts and a play structure with fitness area. New building components consisted of two-story classroom building, student services and a media center. A 2-story solutions sited within a slope was developed to minimize the impact on the limited play fields. Placing the two-story classroom building within a slope also allowed for “educational patios” adjacent to both upper and lower classrooms.
