Chaffey High School North Hall + South Hall
Chaffey Joint Union High School District
Chaffey High School has been a pillar in the City of Ontario and the community for over 100 years. The site was originally the location of Chaffey College in the late 1800s, but the campus was taken over by the high school in 1901 when the school district was initially organized. Much of the Chaffey High School campus that is known today was originally constructed in the 1930s, in a Classic Revival style with hints of Spanish Colonial influence. PJHM is honored to have had the opportunity to modernize two of these buildings - North Hall and South Hall.
Modernizing buildings of the age and stature of North and South Halls was a challenging undertaking. The project required working with original materials and construction methods from over 80 years ago while thoughtfully integrating modern systems, technologies, and standards—all while preserving and honoring the buildings’ historic character and architectural integrity.
Completed in 2023 and 2024 respectively, North and South Halls were modernized with new exterior windows, new classroom technology and storage, accessibility improvements, new interior finishes throughout, seismic upgrades, electrical upgrades to power and data systems, new fire alarm systems and new HVAC systems.
With these projects, North and South Halls feature modern, 21st Century learning environments within the walls of 1930s buildings. With the upgrades provided in these projects, it is certainly hoped that both buildings will see many more decades to come.
