Meadow Park Elementary School is part of Irvine Unified School District in Southern California. The project included many techniques to decrease energy consumption while enhancing the learning environment. Daylighting has been proven in many studies to directly correlate with students performance in the classroom. One study was done for the California Energy Commission in October 2003, titled "Daylighting in Schools: Reanalysis Report." This report studied schools designed by PJHM in Capistrano Unified School District and found daylighting to improve learning rates and student performance. Special Education facilities were included within the project to accommodate the program requirements for six special day classes for multi-handicapped students and one teaching station for the site's RSP program.
